The May 25th deadline is almost here for GDPR compliance. Are your websites ready?
You may be thinking that it doesn’t apply to you. I have seen a number of people in the US stating that it doesn’t apply to them because “it’s only for the EU.” Unfortunately, that isn’t correct.
If you are an affiliate marketer who sells to customers in the area covered by the GDPR, it applies to you. If you are a blogger who has readers in the EU, it applies to you. If you are a person with a website that is simply visited by someone in the EU, it applies to you. So, I ask again: are you ready for EU GDPR compliance?
Now, if you don’t know what that even is, GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation, and it is a regulation on data protection and privacy.
Perhaps the main things for you to know are that it comes into effect on May 25th, and that is has insane penalties if you fail to comply.
If you are not compliant and you happen to receive traffic from the EU, you can be charged 4% of your preceding financial year, or a little over $20 million, whichever is higher.
Yes, whichever is higher. Let that sink in for a bit.
Now, there is quite a bit to do to be prepared, so for myself, I wanted to find the quickest, easiest way to become compliant, and in my case that meant picking up a plug-in for my sites.
This plug-in, called WP GPDR Fix works to make your WordPress site compliant, and is the easiest method I have found, aside from paying someone else to do it for you.
WP GDPR addresses and fixes the 7 key compliance issues fast. It shows you which ones you meet, which ones you don’t, and then fixes everything with rather little work on your part.
So, what does it cover? WP GDPR Fix takes care of the following:
- Cookie Consent
- Terms & Conditions
- Right to be Forgotten
- Data Access Requests
- Data Breach Notification
- Data Rectification Requirements
And if you decide that this is a little complex for you, or if you want more time to look into the requirements, WP GDPR can temporarily or permanently block all traffic to your site from EU countries.
This definitely will put your mind at ease, knowing that you are protected. Simply put, compliance is a must.
So, one last time, are you ready for EU GDPR Compliance?
If not, GET READY NOW!
